Instead of focusing on how much money you don’t have to spend on your date, pay more attention to your partner and what the both of you can do that will be fun and entertaining. Great moments and memories are created not by how much you spend but the quality of time you spend together. At some point in your life you have undoubtedly heard the saying, “it’s the thought that counts” and in this case that is very true. By taking some time to plan and organize a date that is enjoyable for both of you, you can then focus on having fun with your partner. Here we will look at five fun dates that won’t cost an arm and leg to put together. Some of these ideas are tried and true classics while other might be something you hadn’t considered previously.

  1. Dinner reservations at home- There is one reason why dinner at home has long been a popular date option for those looking to save money- it works! Dinner and movie night works well for new couples or people who have been together for years. Plan your evening based on whatever mood you are trying to achieve; fun, romantic or relaxing. You can either cook the entire meal for your partner or prepare the meal together. Throw in a glass of wine or a couple of beers (your preference) and watch a game or movie together. Viola, quality time together without spending more than a few dollars for groceries and the movie rental.

  2. Community events- Many people do not realize how many events are held within their own community that are inexpensive or in many cases, free. If you haven’t tried it yet, check out community bulletin boards and newsletters to see what is going on in your hometown or in towns close by. You might be surprised at the number of entertainment options and activities going on that could be turned into a fun “date” for you and your partner.

  3. Sight-seeing- You don’t have to be on vacation to take in new sights. Just as many people are unaware of activities in their area, it is all too common for “locals” to miss historic building or places right around the corner. Go online and look for significant attractions in your area. In most cases you can plan a day trip that will cost only the cost of admission (which may be free or reduced for local residents). Pack a picnic lunch for your trip to add a romantic touch.

  4. Learn something new- Is there something both you and your partner have never done but would like to learn? Perhaps you both want to learn how to tango, play tennis or some other shared interest. You can look for inexpensive classes or even get some books or dvd’s at your local library and spend a day learning together.

  5. Enjoy mother nature- A cheap and fun way to spend time with your mate is simply by getting out of the house and enjoying mother nature. You can rent a tandem bike and ride through the park, go hiking, bird watching, swimming, ice skating or horseback riding. There are plenty of outdoor activities that can be enjoyed for free or at a relatively low cost. Not only do you get out of the house and enjoy fresh air together, being active will make cuddling up after dinner all the more rewarding!

There are dozens of ways to spend time together with your date without going for broke. The key to having an inexpensive yet fun date is using a bit of creativity in your planning. Planning a date that is low on cost and high on fun is a great way to get to know your date without the pressure of worrying about how much it will “cost” by the end of the night.
