The Low Down Government Grants for Consumer Debt

debt-consolidation-funny-picture

Who hasn’t heard the term ”bailout” over and over again in the last few weeks? It seems that due to the chaos in the debt-consolidation-funny-pictureeconomy, more and more companies are turning to the government for help and relief from debt. But as the nation’s economy continues to remain unstable, many families who are also struggling with debt, trying to keep their heads above water, are too wondering who will help bail them out.

The subject of government grants to pay off consumer debt was a topic proposed to me for coverage in an article. Interestingly, as with most things in life, there are two sides to every story. I certainly found this to be true on this subject. My foray into the world of consumer debt grants started out just fine. I discovered there were indeed government-sponsored grant programs available to help average citizens come back from debt, according to the handful of articles I read online. All that as required was to find and qualify for a debt grant. Simple enough.

Not So Simple
However, when I went the the site that showcases all of the available government grants, I found it very difficult to pull up the multitude of debt grants I had read about  or any programs that remotely related to the relief of consumer debt. The keyword searches yielded nothing even close to programs dealing with debt when my search results were displayed.  So, I went back to the search engines to find out what the deal was.

And So It Is
Lo and behold, I found several more articles from reputable sources that claim there are no such thing as grant programs for consumer debt and that is was highly unlikely that any foundation would give you money to pay off your Visa bill. While there are many grant programs available through the government, it seemed that there were no categories or searches that put me in touch with consumer debt grant programs.

The Cycle of Scams
After my epiphany, I started thinking about the commercials I have seen in the past on television, advertising the kits and books you can purchase that essentially teach you all the simple tips and tricks for getting free government grants. They make it sound so easy to find and apply for this so-called free money. Upon further research on that subject, it appears that the only one seeing dollar signs are the companies profiting from your desperation to get out of debt with free grant money. Sadly, many company promises that are made claiming they will help get you easy and free grant money are scams. It is only after people pay for and receive the information, do they find the exact same information to be publicly available for free around the internet or in print.

If you have high hopes of getting free money from the government, there may still be grant programs for which you do qualify. However, unless you have a specific project/goal in mind, such as improving your community roads or starting a business, there may not be all that many programs out there for you to research.

Back to Reality
Getting out of debt is never an easy feat. It takes hard work and dedication, as well as reasonable expectations. Free money from the government is certainly not a reasonable or logical explanation. If you are looking to get out of debt, start planning now. Your plans will most likely included the old-fashioned, tried and true method of establishing a budget and a commitment to living below your means.
